Wow, what an amazing week I had. Last week our speaker was Kristy Wilke. She shared with us on how to hear God's voice and the many ways he speaks to people. One of the topics she talked about was intercession and how we need to ask God what is on his heart and wait for him to speak to us. This was very challenging to me since it is something that I have never done before. Prayer in itself is not a new concept, but actually waiting for God to reply in a real way is. She shared with us on how it takes time and practice to learn God’s voice. One way God spoke to me last week was through a visual picture of a set of feet lowering into water. As a group we prayed for what God was trying to say to us and other people spoke of taking caution, not just stepping out, but taking it slowly. It was amazing! God has been working in me so much the last two weeks, I can hardly imagine what will happen by the end of my five months.
Last week Wednesday I experienced God’s mighty power and protection through Hurricane Omar. We had heard that a tropical storm was going to come through, but did not expect a hurricane. Wednesday afternoon at lunch they told us what our jobs were in preparing for the storm and not to worry. People were cleaning, preparing food, and boarding up windows. It was a great time of bonding with each other and praying for safety. I was a little nervous, but overall I believe God’s peace was surrounding me. The base had a few power lines come down and lots of branches, but everyone and the buildings were all fine afterwards.
This week we have a speaker named Matt Atkins that is from Washington. He is teaching us about the Father Heart of God. So far he has shown us that God’s love is amazing and we can see it when we love one another. There is a lot more he is sharing too and will share, so I will save that for another time.
I hope all is well for everyone back home. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. It means so much to me that I am not alone in this experience. Everyone of you is apart of it too.
Love in Christ,
Kathy

So glad you are safe and sound. Our God truly is an awesome God! It is exciting to hear about all that God is doing in your life. Please, keep on sharing! :) LOVE YOU!!!
Second time around - first draft I twice spelled lowering "lowing"...and it looked right...ridiculous.
Here’s what I got when I thought about a “set of feet lowering into water”. Remember (probably not:) that service at Mars about the demon possessed man from Mark chapter 5. Over and over again throughout a few weeks the topic of water was brought up, and particularly for that specific chapter, the water represented the lake that separated the clean from the unclean and the Gentiles from the Romans.
Well, Jesus throws down with the demons (“Legion”) in this guy and ends up casting the demons into the nearby pigs who run off the cliff and drown…that’s a pretty well know story that I’m sure you remember. The thing is, the man who was demon possessed wanted to go with Jesus (rightfully so, I’d want to go join the good guys), but Jesus told him to stay and tell everyone what he had experienced. That makes sense, get more believers and stuff.
Now here’s the rub, by having him stay, Jesus was also making the point to his disciples that there was no clean and unclean side of the lake anymore, no more Gentile side and no more Roman side. There was to be no more separating themselves from unbelievers, unrighteous, unclean. The idea is we all have a responsibility to share our story because our life is the gospel. His work in and through us is the Kingdom story.
When I think about feet lowering into water, I think about you bridging the divide and closing the gap of separation. When I think about feet lowering into water, I think about you sharing your story and your life with the people of St. Croix and the people of Haiti. The kingdom as at work within you Kath, go tell your story!
So there you are, feet dangling as He’s slowly lowering you in. Prepare yourself lady, God is going to make a splash with you yet:)
Have a fantabulous week!
Love you much,
Matthew
wow! Kathy, it sounds like this adventure has been amazing so far! I'm so glad that you're safe and sound, I'm also thankful for the insight and understanding you are gaining. It's funny to read it rather than hear it, I can almost hear your voice, but I think it would be much more animated in person :) Let's set up a phone date soon, if you can, k?
love you!!
Laura
Kath I love you and am praying for you...it sounds like God is already at work :) Thanks for the updates!
